Planned Giving
There are many different ways to donate to College Guild to make a lasting impact.
Bequests
You can gift a portion, or all, of your estate to College Guild through a bequest in your will or trust. Below is sample language you may add to your will to make a legacy gift to College Guild:
“I give, devise, and bequeath [the sum of _______ USD {or other currency} OR _______ percent of my estate OR _______ percent of the rest and residue of my estate] to College Guild (Tax ID# 01-0545944) a charitable corporation organized under the laws of the State of Maine, United States, currently located at 103 Harpswell Rd, Suite 106, Brunswick, ME 04011 (mailing address P.O. Box 696, Brunswick, ME 04011) to be used for its general charitable purposes at its discretion.”
Beneficiary Designations
You can leave a gift outside of a will or trust by naming College Guild as a beneficiary of a retirement account, life insurance policy, or brokerage account. Retirement assets, such as IRA’s and 401(k)’s, are often the most heavily taxed assets in an estate and can be the most tax-burdened assets to leave your heirs, making them ideal for charitable giving.
Use the following information to name College Guild as a primary or contingent beneficiary of all or a percentage of a retirement account, life insurance policy, or bank or brokerage account: College Guild, 103 Harpswell Rd., Suite 106, Brunswick, ME 04011. Tax ID#: 01-0545944.
IRA Rollover
If you are 70 ½ or older, you can make a tax-free gift to College Guild from your traditional or Roth IRA. Even if you don’t itemize, you can exclude from your gross income a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) made from your IRA. To qualify, the gift must be made directly from your IRA, not passing through your personal checking accounts, and must clear your IRA account by December 31 to be counted in the current tax year. If you are required to take Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs), your QCD can satisfy all or a portion of the required distribution.
